The sun was very hot in the wilderness by day & the Ultra-violet radiation could have seriously harmed the Israelites for 40 years in the wilderness. Probably most of them would have died of cancers as a result but God protected them with a pillar of cloud that never left them a single day. No wonder Moses would not have it that God's presence would fail to accompany them in that difficult journey. At night, because desert temperatures were extremely low & it was very dark, God provided them with a pillar of fire to give both warmth & light. These two pillars also enabled them to travel both by day & night for 40 years. Exodus 13:21 By day the Lord went ahead of them in a pillar of cloud to guide them on their way and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so that they could travel by day or night. 22 Neither the pillar of cloud by day nor the pillar of fire by night left its place in front of the people.
This
supernatural pillar that God gave HIS children was a symbol of HIS great
faithfulness. It is an encouragement to us that God never leaves us nor
forsakes us. What a great comfort that the children of Israel experienced
especially in the night when the pillar of fire illuminated their paths &
gave them warmth in the freezing night temperatures! Friends, there is nothing
like God's presence being with us in our life journey! Nothing & no one
shall stop us both "day & night" No matter how hot things are,
there will be a pillar of cloud covering us that "the sun shall not smite
us by day. No matter how cold & dark it is, there will always be a pillar
of fire to give light & warmth in the night so that the "moon shall
not harm us by night". Be encouraged people of God. Let nothing stop you
in your journey of faith "day or night". Allow The LORD'S presence to
go with you so that HE will be your helper always". Remember to lift your
eyes to God alone for help.
Psalm
121:1 "I lift up my eyes to the mountains— where does my help come from? 2
My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. 3 He will not let
your foot slip— he who watches over you will not slumber; 4 indeed, he who
watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. 5 The Lord watches over
you— the Lord is your shade at your right hand; 6 the sun will not harm you by
day, nor the moon by night. 7 The Lord will keep you from all harm— he will
watch over your life; 8 the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now
and forevermore."
